Report: Native Hawaiian Perspective (2023)

More Native Hawaiians now live on the U.S. continent than in Hawaiʻi. What do they feel? What do they face?

‘Āina Momona + Ward Research surveyed 850+ Native Hawaiians in the islands and across the continent, plus non-Hawaiians, and found:

  • 90%+ take deep pride and comfort in their culture

  • Continental NH participate far less in traditions due to distance and access

  • Economic pressures drive migration; many experience racial discrimination

  • A small but growing group on the continent feels detached from their Hawaiian identity

  • Slight optimism for the future — but real concerns remain
